Invisible zips are often difficult to recognise. However, they can be found in many items of clothing (dresses, skirts, down jackets, etc.). They are covered in fabric on the outside, but the teeth are visible on the inside. On the inside, the teeth are made of nylon, very thin and very tight. You can see images of nylon zips on the nylon pack, for example, or on the camping pack.

Repair a dress zip?

Formal dresses and skirts often have invisible zips for a more elegant look. Repairing this type of zip may seem technical, but the Clip Zip slider guarantees a repair in just a few seconds.

• Start by removing the original slider using pliers.
• Open the Clip Zip slider using the wedge supplied with your purchas
• Place the Clip Zip slider into your zip so that both rows of teeth are captured inside it. Snap it closed. It's fixed!

Clip Zip sliders are machine washable, so you can leave them snapped on even during your laundry cycles.

Tip for measuring the width of your waterproof/invisible zip:

Measuring the width of your invisible zip may seem complicated. But you can look behind your original slider to see if there's a number there. If it says 5 or 7, the corresponding slider will be 5C2.

To measure your invisible zip, take the side where the teeth are visible, join them together and measure this width. You can use our reference card, designed to actual scale, to help you!

A little tip: the tab on our replacement sliders may seem small to you. Your idea might be to add a loop or stitched fabric to lengthen the basic tab and make it easier to pull. This is a mistake you should never make! The longer the tab, the harder and more randomly it will pull. If you want to keep your slider in good condition for longer, don't make your tongue longer.

How do I know if my zip is invisible?

Be careful not to confuse a zip that has fabric over the slider (to hide the teeth) with a zip that has the fabric caught in the slider! Invisible zips are those where the fabric does not cover the slider, the slider takes the fabric when it goes up or down.

Invisible zips have fabric sewn in with the teeth! So when the slider passes over to close the zip, you can't see the teeth, only the fabric. These zips are mainly found on hiking and sports clothing, and are discreet and thin. Mackintoshes, hiking bags, windproof jackets, etc. all have zips of this type.
